Maggie Tanner
illustrator in pastels
Hello
My art ability was noticed at the age of 5 by my lovely reception teacher Mrs Senior. I started attending a Saturday art class and was encouraged by everyone from that point.
My work was displayed in Farnham library, but turned away from the TV program 'Take Hart' after being mistaken for a traced piece (much to my dad’s disappointment)!
Since leaving school, work, life and family took over, but my love and passion for art has never left me and it is what and where I feel I should be. Drawing nature! Capturing the soul and life of animals!

I've now got tears in my eyes - you couldn't have captured Gracie any more than you have. I just want to cuddle her. Wow, absolutely amazing Maggie, I'm choked up - you are so talented, I can't thank you enough xx

So I'm now the proud owner of a Maggie Tanner original! It is the most exquisite piece of work and I can't wait to get it framed and on the wall. Just hoping it's not the only one I ever have.'

I asked Maggie to draw 2 portraits of my Newfoundland dogs. Her attention to detail is amazing, the portraits are so life like. The standard of her work is outstanding. I will be commissioning Maggie to do 2 more portraits for me this year.

We have many pictures in our home that Maggie has drawn with pastels. Her talent is unbelievable; such attention to detail. She has a very keen eye and brings her drawings to life. We had commissioned Maggie to draw an elephant for a friend's 50th. Amazing! I wouldn't go anywhere else for my artwork.

Maggie's portraits of Harry are moving, amazing and fantastic. It takes a while to understand why, the impact of the image on a visual and emotional level. Maggie interprets colour, texture and form, converting a photograph into higher definition of being, so the subject comes alive. It seems every hair is defined, every texture is alive and so the emotions come alive. Harry is with us again within the frame, and for a moment it tricks us into the belief that somehow we could again reach into the frame, on the one hand and touch him, and Harry too, reaches out of the frame to meet us as he once was, in totality. At that moment we are moved emotionally beyond words. Maggie understands this emotional connection, and is the benchmark of her success For me, this reaction will never leave me, even now, each time I look at the portrait, and I thank Maggie for that from the bottom of my heart.
